Photo Diary: Adventure 🚀

*NikkRich gets an idea. She changes her clothes and begins to get ready for an outing. Wondering if her friend, Ferriss Mason would be down she asks Ferriss a question*

NikkRich: "Lets go to Coachella ..."

Ferriss Mason: "Are you serious? I have to get my work done."

NikkRich: "Yea .. lets just go. You see I changed my shorts and put on my earrings."

Ferriss Mason: *Laughs* "You didn't shower though .. and well .. I have to get my work done first."

NR: *Looks down at attire.* "True I should probably take a shower, but we're going. We're going after you finish."

FM: *Bangs computer* "Why won't this website work?!"

NR: "Restart it."

FM: *Restarts computer* "Still not working."

NR: "Lets go."

FM: "Ok."

Mind you, we didn't have much knowledge of where we were going, who we were meeting up with, and how we were going to get to where we were going. It's hard for me to resist a good adventure. Thank God for the Cloud 9 community on top of the parking garage though, we probably wouldn't have made it back home.

Travel: Portland, Koons, & InHonor

I've never been to Portland before. In my small time there, I couldn't help but notice the deafining silence of the city and the fact there is not a shortage of plaid. It could be my mini transplant to LA but I couldn't help but wonder where are the people? Better yet, where are the black people, or minorities? Ironically, I went to Portland to support and document my best friend and artist, Ervin Johnson, solo show rightfully named, #InHonor. To honor us. I was interested to see the faces that would show up for the opening and artist talk.

Portland not only brought black faces to where they are scarce, but it gave me the chance to sit back and look at all that i've accomplished. That WE accomplished. From sharing good conversation over great food and drinks, watching basketball games from the box, to museum trips with family ... Portland could have been worse.

The show was nothing short of beautiful and touching but at the time I haven't seen my friend in years .. so we had act like we didn't know how to.

Photo Diary: Getting Vegased, Flying Spirit for the first time, & Ziplining

One day turned into 1 1/2. In the words of Prater, I was Vegased! Spirit is only good to fly as far as Vegas from LA. One piece of advice though, don't miss that flight. $100 to rebook. I paid $79 round trip. So, don't get drunk & miss your flight. Ew.

I'm going to have to go back to Vegas under different terms. I felt dusty af the next day and unprepared for life!

Yet another story added to the book which is why we do most of the dumb things we do anyway.

The Get Away: Aruba

I get a phone call as I'm getting my mind and equipment set up to work after work. It's my father, he asks me if I want to go to Aruba, thinking nothing of it, I said "Yea, duh!" remembering back to a couple weeks ago when I said " I want to go to Aruba so bad!" He asked if I would want to leave on Saturday to go. It was Tuesday. A rush of built up emotion and gratitue to the Lord and a giant burst of "Yes!!" was all I could manage before I had to get off the phone. Any words said after that would have been inaudible, due to the fact of me bawling *insert crying emoji with rivers of tears*

I immediately forgot about the work I was about to dive into and packed up everything quickly as possible and made my way to my car. After all, I was still at work and the occasional co-worker would casually stroll by. Long story short, I cried the whole 20 minute drive home .... non-stop.

What you put in, you get out.

I've never had a pleasant packing/airport experience like I had getting to Aruba. I first landed in Atlanta for a night, joined my family, then proceeded to Aruba the next morning.

*the heavens opened and Jesus said "welcome home"*

Photo Diary: Connections, Evolving & the Future

This year was about growth for me. Moving and living in a new state (again), growing as a photographer and a person. Looking back on these short four months of living in LA, the progression has been amazing. Remembering where my photography was, and where it is now, is astounding.

I've gained a new perspective on my work & I'm so excited to start on new projects.

I hope you all have developed in the same amount or more as I have in 2015!

See my highlights below.
