Stay Flexible by NikkRich

Something I had to learn: keep things simple and build.

I took a break for two months, and focused on slowing down and figuring out what I wanted out of my everyday. Taking a break seriously helped me with damn near everything, mentally and physically! This didn't come easy though, it came with challenges in which I learned another lesson, be flexible. As we already know, things never go as planned. I knew this but still found myself fighting against the forces that are growth. Simple things such as my sleep schedule, answering e-mails quicker, and switching my work flow to be more efficient to make room for more work. Flexibility is a necessity during times of change, sometimes fighting back makes growth that much harder.

Another lesson: Don't fight change.

There is nothing like solely focusing on what you want and beginning to see things unfold.

The photo set below is an example of patience and creating work without pressure. I felt as though most of my concepts and ideas didn't come to fruition because I either did too much OR not enough. Disappointing. Mainly because I was racing against a clock that didn't exist anywhere but in my mind. I had to ask myself, who am I racing? why am I racing them? where are we going?  I'm not sure who said things had to be done by a certain age but as an artist, it can be detrimental to my creativity. Fuck a time clock .. and who ever invented it

Although I still have SO MUCH more work to do, I feel stronger mentally. Imagine what I could accomplish if I focused every two months for a year?!

Message!

Key to life: Stay flexible & slow down.

Product: Jewelry by NikkRich

Back like I never left! I felt inspired over the past couple of months to create something I haven't before. So! I decided to photograph Agamemnon's jewelry  in a different light *pun intended* .

Seriously though ... I truly love what I was able to create from drawing paper, a mirror, and a little sand!

Something sexy. Something dark.

No eggs, dairy, or anything of the flesh. Plant based. Vegan. All words that seem to scare people and are the butt of the thanksgiving jokes. You know your plate is full of veggies, bread, and sweet potatoes if you're vegan around holiday time. You don't get many options.

*cue trumpets playing a heavenly melody*

Bomb af! Inobe Nicole. Not only has a dope ass sense of style, but she also cooks .. amazing vegan dishes! Once Inobe showed me a couple simple vegan recipes, I was sold. (I went vegan for 2 months but then I had a cheese crumble. My new lifestyle disappeared.) I just needed to rethink traditional dishes that normally held meat as the star. My favorite that I can't STOP making?! The tacos! Made with walnut pieces and cashew halves, cumin, salt (to taste), and olive oil. Topped with red onions, tomatoes, avacado, and cilantro wrapped in a lettuce leaf. Everyone I've made this dish for, fell in love! It's a raw dish (no heat necessary) and only requires a food processor. Perfect! Takes 5 minutes to make.

Be sure to pop over to her website for fashion inspiration and her raw vegan taco recipe!

Soft.Beautiful. Melanin. by NikkRich

You can't deny the beauty of melanin.

I started this project like I do all my portrait projects, with black women in mind. I began shooting black women my Sophomore year of college. Little did I know I started working on something that would clearly be my lifes work. A body of work that will always be loading, playing in the background of every thought and concept. With each new chapter in my life, the project just takes on a new face.  Stylistically they don't look the same, but they have the same underlying intention. Uplift, beauty, care, and love.
